Since I enjoy reading this thread I feel I must at least contribute my very own Darwin story.
This was during beta where I had discovered the fun of piracy. My main inspiration was LeeLoo, a notorious pirate, worse than Stavr0s. Now pirates measure themselves based on bounty, and my goal sure was hell was to get a big price on my head.
I was the proud owner of a Rifter and had during that day successfully sunk several industrials and a few frigates when I decide that I need to stock up on ammo before I return home and dock for the night.
So I use a fortune on missiles and antimatter ammunition and start my way home. Upon entering a system with a security of 0.2 I notice that there are two people present and that they are mining, I get this from their chatting. Well, I was about to dock and go to sleep, but the temptation was just too great so I start looking in the various belts for them.
After around 8 belts I finally discover them, two Imicus happily mining while chatting. Easy as pie I think and swoop in, scrambling the Imicus, then opening fire. The second imicus warps away while that one I am scrambling cries mercy and tries and escape by conventional drive. Not feeling particular merciful I fire off another salvo of missiles that not only destroys his ship but also his pod. My intention was not to pod him, but since it happened I decided to hell with it.
The guy was fuming with anger and shouting defiance at me and a little flaming via EVE mail.
Now, I spot a drone just sitting there and decide that I want that as loot. Try to scoop it, can?t because it has to be incapacitated first. I remember the tutorial, lock it and fire a single shot and I can now scoop it.
Unfortunately CONCORD gets mad when you shoot other peoples property. You can take their life but they?ll be damned if they will let you get away with shooting at a drone. So before I can even turn around 3 SWAT cops spawns on top of me and starts pounding me. Being stuck in the asteroid field I never manage to warp or fly away and after around 15 seconds I am in a pod.
I am glad I learned that lesson during beta.
Total loss was around 100,000 in missiles, a good chunk of ammo, my Rifter and weapons, modules and such.
